As Manhasset returns from its summer vacation, once again a wealth of opportunity to volunteer in our community appears in the pages of the Manhasset Press. The Candlelight Vigil reminds us of Tuesday's Children, that wonderful effort on behalf of children who lost parents on 9/11. Our churches all need volunteers, as do St. Francis Hospital and North Shore, and in each case the variety of jobs where volunteers are needed are many and diverse. The Manhasset Women's Coalition Against Breast Cancer is doing wonderful work and would welcome more members. The same can be said of AHRC, Manhasset branch, the Gift of Life, besides our local service organizations such as the Rotary Club of Manhasset and the Manhasset Kiwanis Club. Of course, in Manhasset, there are also always opportunities to volunteer with children--as mentors, coaches, and tutors. The Friends of the Manhasset Library is a friendly group and the League of Women Voters does valuable work and holds stimulating programs. If none of these appeal to you, the Manhasset Community Fund could use your help and can suggest other worthwhile organizations for you to investigate. We would be happy to direct you to any of these volunteer opportunities. Get involved. The rewards are many.
