Permanent Memorials Commemorating 9/11
Two years ago this month the Twin Towers disappeared and in their wake we were left to deal with the unimaginable loss of all they have come to represent. One year ago in an effort to cope, to remember, to honor and commemorate the more than two dozen neighbors' lives that were lost as the towers fell, several permanent memorials were dedicated throughout the town. These memorials are a visual reminder of the community's loss and of just how much our world has changed. Three such memorial gardens are those created by the Munsey Park Women's Club, The Village of Plandome Manor and the Manhasset School District.

Americana: The Evolution Continues
There was an enormous white tent erected in the parking lot behind the shops at Americana Manhasset on Wednesday, Sept. 3, to mark the ribbon cutting for the new east section of the center. For those of us who remember the less elegant days of Newberry's, the Arcade Bakery and Leeds Drugstore, the transformation was complete. Not for Frank Castagna, however. He still has plans for openings in 2004 that will include a larger Burberry's and the renovation of Millie's Restaurant. "In 2005 we shall rest," he said, "but not for long. Year 2006 is the 50th anniversary of the Americana and that will call for another celebration. In 2007 Castagna Realty will have its 85th anniversary celebration. The evolution of Americana Manhasset and Castagna companies will continue."
