  • News: Town Receiver of Taxes Galante Steps Down

    Town of North Hempstead Receiver of Taxes Ann M. Galante has stepped down from her position. Her last day was Friday, Aug. 15. Galante, who had already announced she would not be seeking re-election in this November's election, hoped to finish out her term, which ends on December 31, but a serious illness in her family required her to leave sooner.   • Sports: Manhasset Lacrosse Great Tim Goettelman Breaks MLL Scoring Record

    On August 10, in front of 3,500 plus spectators, Tim Goettelmann of Manhasset High School and Loyola College broke the single game scoring record in Major League Lacrosse by scoring nine goals in 10 shots in a 23-16 Long Island Lizards victory over the New Jersey Pride. Goettelmann's nine goals against the Pride broke the MLL single scoring record of eight goals held by Casey Powell of the Rochester Rattlers. FULL STORY

    Manhasset Bay Race Week began as the MBYC Fall Series in the mid 1930s and was originally intended to be a post-Labor Day event. In 1962 the regatta was moved into August and renamed Manhasset Bay Race Week. This year's regatta, the 71st, was held on Friday through Sunday, August 7-10th. Rumor has it that Beth and Greg Danilek took top line honors in the Sonar Class by bringing in a "ringer" as their tactician on Housemartin, leading to complaints of unfair advantage. Nicholas Danilek, who is will be five in October, sailed in all six races with his parents, giving them first place overall (3,3,3,2,1,2). Congratulations to Nicholas and his parents and to all who participated in this year's Race Week. Top skippers and crew in each of the divisions, starting with the junior sailors: Optimist Class: 1.
