US Awards Federal Grants to Fire Departments
Thanks to the efforts of our New York Senators and our local Congress members, the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department will receive $45, 000 in federal funds to fund fire prevention programs. The funds are being awarded through the Assistance to Firefighters program, administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). United States Senators Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer, Congressman Gary Ackerman and Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy were all instrumental in helping to obtain the grants for the Manhasset-Lakeville Department, which is the largest fire department in Nassau County. Under provisions of the grant, the federal government's contribution is 90 percent, or $45,000, while the fire department's share is 10 percent, or $5,000.
