Virginia Jane O'Connor, known by most as Jane, passed away on July 8, 2003 in New Britain, CT. She was born on Nov. 25, 1916. A Manhasset resident for more than 50 years, she had recently moved to Connecticut to be near her youngest son. She was pre-deceased by her husband James Joseph O'Connor. She is survived by her son, Richard Terrence Thralls and his wife Kathy Runquest Thralls of Glastonbury, CT; a daughter, Marylove Thralls and her husband Mike Hackett of Santa Barbara, CA; a son, Jeffrey Martin Thralls of Los Angeles, CA; and six stepchildren, Sue O'Connor Boyd, Pat O'Connor Brown, Catherine O'Connor, James O'Connor Jr., Joan O'Leary O'Brien and Barbara O'Leary Peck and their families, including 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The heart of this wonderful extended family was the family home on Foxhurst Lane in Manhasset, where Jane played hostess to innumerable family gatherings, as well as luncheons for her beloved North Strathmore Women's Club and many impromptu occasions to enjoy the company of a host of neighbors with whom she shared deep affection. A graduate of Trinity College, Washington, DC, Jane was active for many years in her alumni association and kept a vital interest in the college throughout her life. Always an avid reader, she served as a librarian at the Manhasset Public Library for a brief period of time prior to working in customer relations for Publisher's Clearing House in Port Washington.
Adopted as an infant, Jane always wondered about her birth mother and just a few years ago learned her mother's name was June. Her son, Jeffrey observed that perhaps now she would get to meet her mother at long last. Godspeed, Virginia Jane. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, July 14, 2003 at St. Mary's Church, Manhasset at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the North Shore Animal League or the Meals on Wheels Program. The Glastonbury Funeral Home in Glastonbury, CT had charge of arrangements.
