Discussions which focused on the application by St. Francis Hospital for approval of the expansion of its existing facility began the July 7 meeting of the board of trustees. Deputy Mayor William Clemency led the dialog centered around the impact that the expansion would have on the surrounding areas. It was resolved that the many factors to be considered will be open for public discussion at a scoping meeting to be held in early August at the Village Hall. At that time, representatives from St. Francis and the board of trustees will review impact study results to determine whether or not state and local codes have been satisfied. Anyone wishing to attend the meeting is asked to call the village office at 627-2253 for the exact date and time.
The board members then went on to an exchange of ideas about traffic calming methods led by trustee Tab Hauser. There are concerns in many areas of the village about speeding cars and the safety of residents. It was resolved that professional traffic consultants will be hired to develop plans for dealing legally and effectively with the problem areas.
Other local matters included the announcement by Mayor James Damascus that construction work on Manhasset Woods Road will begin shortly with signs posted at both ends of the street advising the public of the exact dates. Although the road will remain open, delays are expected.
It was also resolved that the village would become an agency for the issuing of passports as soon as staff training has been completed. Check with the village clerk for the specific date that this convenience will be available.
The board meets on the first Monday of each month and for more information about codes and other matters check the village website: www.villageflowerhill.com.
