Phoebe Kollmer, 87, of Lapham Farm Road died on June 26, 2003 at Overlook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Pascoag. She was the wife of William Henry Kollmer. She was born in Providence Dec. 9, 1915, a daughter of Simon Sayles and Leah (Inman) Lapham.
She graduated from Classical High School, Providence in 1934 and obtained her airplane pilot's license. She graduated from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY in 1938 where she was a member of Beta Beta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity for Women. After graduation, she worked as a social worker in Providence briefly before moving to Manhasset, where she lived for 40 years. An avid horsewoman, she was a Girl Scout leader, a volunteer at Abilities School for the Handicapped, now the Henry Viscardi School in Albertson and a fourth grade teacher at Greenvale School in Old Brookville.
Besides her husband she is survived by one son, William Lapham Kollmer, of Juno Beach, FL; two daughters, Leah Kollmer Puzzo of Leonia, NJ and Phyllis Kollmer Santry of New York. She had four grandchildren: Brian Walsh, Phyllis Ann Puzzo, Anthony John Puzzo and the late Ryan Kollmer and three great-granddaughters. She was the sister of the late Phyllis Lapham Allen and Sayles Inman Lapham.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be sent in her memory to the Ryan Kollmer Memorial Scholarship Fund, Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, 700 South Dixie Highway, Suite 200, West Palm Beach, FL 33401. Funeral services will be private.
Veronica E. Rainson (nee Hirt) died on June 14, 2003 at North Shore University Hospital. She was born in the Bronx in 1910 and moved to Manhasset about two years later. She was a 1930 graduate of Manhasset High School. She was employed by the Manhasset School District for about 33 years.
She is survived by her son Albert G. Rainson and his wife Maryann, of Manhasset, and their children: Carol and Alton Rose of Islip, James and Cynthia Rainson of Manhasset and Diane Rainson of Manhasset. She is also survived by three great grandchildren: Cobi, Cameron and Emma.
Mass was held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 18, with burial following in the family plot at St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village.
