The Manhasset Public Schools 2003-04 Budget was approved by voters on June 25, 2003, with 1435 votes in favor and 1127 against the proposed plan.
The budget represents an 8.17 percent increase over the previous year's budget.
Board of Education President Barbara Donno was extremely pleased on the budget passage saying: "Manhasset has a strong tradition of unwavering commitment in providing financial support for its schools. We are pleased with the outcome of the budget revote. The Board of Education works hard to present a finance plan which is fiscally responsible to all taxpayers and which is fair in presenting educational programs for the students. The 2003-04 budget was one of the most challenging to develop in recent years.
"While it took two attempts for passage, we want to express our thanks to the Manhasset community for their continued support. We want to reaffirm our commitment to provide the very best educational services for our students. Finally, the board wants to stress to our residents that we are always open to hear your concerns and questions. We urge everyone to get involved in your school community and we invite you to attend board of education meetings."
Commenting on the success of the second vote, School Community Association Executive President Michelle McGann, said: "The approval of the budget is an encouraging display of support by our community. We wish to thank parents, senior citizens, empty-nesters and newcomers alike, for their strong show of support in approving the budget for our schools. While we were dismayed on the original defeat, the success of last night's vote shows that the Manhasset community truly cares about its children and the quality of the education offered to them. It also shows that our residents take great pride in their community."
