MHS Holds its 83rd Graduation
As he stood at the podium in his customary purple robe in front fellow teachers, administrators, former students, and friends and family of the Manhasset High School class of 2003, Dr. Joseph D'Angelo addressed the crowd. Yet it was clear that he was speaking directly to the graduates. "I've made no secret about it...I love this class," he said.

Judge Confirms Town's Right to Set Districts
Supreme Court Justice Robert Roberto has confirmed the Town of North Hempstead's right to draw its own councilmanic district lines, rather than have that right ceded to the Board of Elections. In his decision Judge Roberto writes: "The facts are simple and undisputed. Petitioner Peter Cavallaro (ed. Note: Republican leader of the Town of North Hempstead) successfully sued to have a petition for the establishment of a ward system placed before the Town Board of North Hempstead, and ultimately the electorate. On April 29, 2003, town residents voted on two related propositions. They approved the establishment of a ward system and an increase in the number of councilmen/councilwomen from four to six. The question here is which body is charged by law to implement the expressed will of the voters."

English Sixth Grade Laxers Complete Perfect 14-0 Season
Despite three years of considerable success, Rob English's sixth grade boys lacrosse team had seen two goals remain outside its collective grasp. Therefore, nothing this year was more important than to win the 2003 PAL championship and finish the eight game regular season undefeated and untied. And at about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, both were achieved when Manhasset emerged triumphant by a 6-3 count over arch-rival Cold Spring Harbor/Huntington. The undisputed possession of the league championship, an undefeated 8-0 PAL record and-much like the cherry on top of the ice cream sundae-a perfect 14-0 won-lost mark were all theirs.

On The Bay
According to Stanley Rosenberg, the North Shore YC has numerous sailing trophies for cruising classes but no appropriate one for the One Design Racers. Feeling that one design sailors were being neglected, Stanley, who races a Sonar, Tzuris, and is an architect with an avocation of jewelry design and silversmithing, decided to remedy the situation in 1999. The outcome was a beautiful trophy for one design sailors, called the Rosenberg Trophy, with two sterling silver three-dimensional sails mounted on a bed of green Verde marble which was sandblasted to bring out the white grain to simulate water. The sails can rotate for the various positions of the sails on the wind. Last Saturday, June 14, ten Sonar teams competed in two races, vying to have their name engraved on the trophy. The third race was canceled due to an impeding squall approaching from the northwest. Ralf Steitz won line honors, and will have his name engraved on the silver plaque at the bottom of the Rosenberg Trophy, which resides permanently in a glass case at the North Shore YC. John Browning came in second, followed by Bob Kirtland in third place.
