At the North Hempstead Town Board Meeting of May 13 there was an item on the agenda regarding the intersection of Bayview Avenue and Maple Street in Manhasset.
The proposed ordinance would require southbound traffic to come to a complete stop on Bayview Avenue at its intersection with Maple Street. The ordinance would also prohibit left turns from Bayview onto Maple. The suggestion to enact this ordinance came from the Nassau County Department of Public Works.
With the cooperation of the Manhasset Press, I have been soliciting the opinions of area residents. Some disagree wholly with the proposal while others have simply expressed concern. Still others have suggested alternatives to the proposed ordinance, such as mandating a "Right Turn Only" limited to Monday through Friday, without a stop sign. There are also those who support the proposal as is.
Given these differing opinions, this proposal was adjourned without a vote. It is clear to me-although no one from the public spoke at the board meeting-that residents have much to say about this ordinance. My office phone number is 869-7698, and my e-mail address is pollackf@northhempstead.com.
All residents who would like to voice their viewpoint on this issue are encouraged to do so. If any action is taken, it will not be until there has been an opportunity to formulate a new proposal and the public has had ample time to comment on it.
