Barbara Johnston Nicholas, 94; daughter of the late Franklin and Daisy Johnston; cherished mother of David, Joan, Philip, Mary and the late Paul and Ann Nicholas; dearest mother-in-law of Carole and Donette; beloved grandmother of Michelle, Sean, Terry, Danielle, Michael, Diane, Catherine and Brendan; dearest great-grandmother of Jack, Nicole, Ryan, Bodhi, Rhys, Shawnita Noah, Billy and Dempsey; cherished friend of many, died at home in the loving arms of her daughter, Mary, on Feb. 20, 2003. Barbara served as secretary of St. Mary's Rectory and St. Mary's Boys' High School for over 20 years. She was active in the AARP; the North Strathmore Association; the American Association of University Women for Life; Manhasset Community Club and various bridge groups; St. Mary's Rosary Society; Catholics United for the Faith and the Third Order of St. Francis. She was buried at Calvary Cemetery.
