The Manhasset Park District has announced plans for a beautification and refurbishment project located at the Long Island Rail Road station on Plandome Road. The project, which involves the American Legion World War I Memorial, will take place, weather permitting, in the near future.
Commissioners Bernard Rolston, Patricia Roberts and Mark Sauvigne have approved the design, shown above, rendered by Manhasset resident Norman Nemec. Commissioner Roberts, reflecting on her more than four decades in Manhasset, said: "Looking down Plandome Road you see what everyone envisions as Hometown, USA--a beautiful park at the center, a Main Street lined with shops whose owners greet you by name, and a train station.
"As long as I have been here I have shared the pride my neighbors have shown in their homes and their town. It is with great pleasure that I join my fellow commissioners in kicking off what we hope will be a joint effort of the owners of the commercial property along Plandome Road and our board to insure the continuation of our image as a desirable place to live and conduct business. We hope the commuters traveling to and from our town will enjoy what we think will be a beautiful addition to our hometown."
