Mrs. John P. Ahern succumbed to ovarian cancer on July 2, 2002. Joan passed away in her home, surrounded by her family.

Joan was a loving mother and 32-year resident of Manhasset. She was active in many local community organizations including serving as past president of Saint Mary's Rosary Society, founding member of Saint Mary's Grammar School's Parent Teacher Association, patron member of C.A.P.A., Chaminade Alumni Parent Association, recording secretary of North Shore American - Irish Cultural Society, and dedicated worker for the Nassau County Board of Elections.

Joan is survived by her beloved mother, Mrs. Anna Healy of Flushing, her three children Gail Anne Harney of Garden City, Timothy and Kieran Ahern of Manhasset and their respected spouses Liam, Patricia and Christina; by her brother Daniel and her four precious grandchildren Megan and Brendan Harney, Timothy and Kelly Ahern.
