The Manhasset High School Girls' Varsity Lacrosse Team, which lost to eventual State Champion Garden City by a 13-12 score on a disallowed goal by Meredith Hotarek with 10 seconds remaining in the county title game, has garnered 10 individual County Awards and two All-American Awards in the post-season.
Under the tutelage of Coach Campoletanno and Assistant Coach Brandy Schnitzer-Miller, the team finished with a 12-4-1 record. Team members have enjoyed tremendous accolades in the post-season award circuit.
Following the season's end, Nassau County held its Awards Dinner. The Prestigious Scholar Athlete Award was given to Jessica Shriftman, a senior, for her outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom. Mary Kate Denihan, a senior who will attend Boston College next fall, garnered the Unsung Hero Award for her tireless dedication and commitment to the team and its success. Sophomore Juliet White and freshman Aly English each garnered All-Conference Honors for their outstanding performance in the team's successful run. Manhasset junior Meredith Hotarek, whose goal with 10 seconds remaining in the Nassau County Championship game was disallowed in a controversial conclusion to the season, was awarded All-County (Honorable Mention) for her superior talents.
Five players received All-County designation, Kate Breslin, a junior who has already established Manhasset single game, single season and total goals scored records as a junior, was the recipient of the Award for the second successive year. Kendra Bernard, a sophomore, who with Kate Breslin and Katie Killeen was a member of the New York State National Team, was the second member announced as a recipient of All-County Honors. Kendra, who has blinding speed and staunch determination, continues to improve with each passing game. Sophomore Lauren Taylor, who came to Manhasset after an outstanding freshman year at Greenvale School, added potent offense and stick skills to the Indian attack. The next recipient, Junior Lindsey Buhr, a stalwart defender whose never-say-die attitude provided spark to the team, was the fourth All-County Honoree. Senior Katie Killeen, another defender, and with Kate Breslin, co-captain of the team, was the final recipient of an All-County Award.
Also post-season, it was announced that Nassau County had eight All-American Award recipients, two of whom were on the Manhasset Team. Katie Killeen, who will attend Notre Dame next fall, was one of five Nassau County recipients of All-American (Honorable Mention) designation, while Kate Breslin, who had been an Honorable Mention All-American as a sophomore, was designated an All-American as a junior.
The team, which is a young team that improved with each game during the season, has a lot to be proud of this year and will be looking to go all the way to the State Championship next year.
