  • News: Barbara Donno and Thomas Killeen Re-elected to Lead Board of Education for 2002-03 School Year

    At the annual Reorganization Meeting of the Manhasset Public Schools Board of Education, held Thursday, July 9, 2002, Barbara Donno was re-elected president of the board of education for the 2002-2003 school year. Mrs. Donno has been a Board member for seven years. She has served as board president for the past two years, and previously was board vice-president for two years. FULL STORY

  • News: Court Rules Against Plandome Country Club

    In a ruling handed down on June 25, State Supreme Court Justice Stephen A. Bucaria annulled the approvals which the Plandome Village Board of Appeals had granted to Plandome Country Club for the construction of a new "caddy shack." Residents of Circle Drive in Plandome Manor brought the suit, which challenged the BZA approval. In January of 2001 the BZA gave the Club a variance and building permit for this construction. Residents of Circle Drive in Plandome Manor, the homeowners who live nearest the building in question, complained that they had not been informed of the Country Club's plans. The residents also objected to the size and location of the building. The BZA responded that all legal notices required had been published and that it was not Plandome's responsibility to notify the residents of another village. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Varsity Girls Lacrosse Players Garner 10 County Awards and Two All-American Awards

    The Manhasset High School Girls' Varsity Lacrosse Team, which lost to eventual State Champion Garden City by a 13-12 score on a disallowed goal by Meredith Hotarek with 10 seconds remaining in the county title game, has garnered 10 individual County Awards and two All-American Awards in the post-season.   • Sports: On The Bay

    Matt Himler, 15, from Manhasset Bay YC has won the 2002 Commodore Law Trophy sailing a Laser Radial at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich, CT on July 1-2. This prestigious award is given to the winner of the Commodore Law Trophy Regatta, which is the JSA Finals for the Bemis and Smythe National Championships. The regatta was open to any JSA member sailing a Club 420, a Laser, or a Laser Radial who met at least one of the following criteria: 1. Finished in the top 30 percent of their division of the Eastern Districts, Western Districts, Larchmont Junior Race Week or 420, Laser, Laser Radial Race Week in 2001; 2. Sailed in the 2001 Area B semi-finals of the Sears, Bemis or Smythe; and 3. Was invited to sail in the 2001 US Sailing Junior Olympic National Sailing championship. FULL STORY
