  • News: Board Presents New Library Plans

    The Board of Directors of the Manhasset Public Library presented its plans for a new library to the public at a meeting on June 11. Board President Carol Ascrizzi told the crowd of about 100 people that the board has been working for the past six months with its architects on issues concerning the building itself and the traffic problems. The board plans to hold a public referendum in the fall. Ms. Ascrizzi introduced Roger Smith, the architect with whom the board has been working. FULL STORY

  • News: Neighbors in the News Caitlin Abruzzo of Manhasset was accepted to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine (NYLF/MED) taking place in Washington, D. C. from June 23 to July 2. NYLF/MED is a career development program for high school students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential and an interest in medicine. She will join approximately 350 other high school students from around the country. Throughout the 10-day forum, NYLF/MED will introduce Caitlin to a variety of concepts in public health, medical ethics, research and general practice, including site visits to medical facilities and clinics. Students will engage in a problem-based learning simulation, an educational method where they are presented with a fictional patient's case history and must diagnose and develop a treatment plan for the patient. In addition to site visits to cutting edge medical schools and clinical facilities, she will hear from and have the opportunity to interact with leaders within the medical field. Students have up-close personal contact with physicians, surgeons, researchers, scientists and medical educators as they go behind the scenes to view these professionals at work.


  • Sports: Manhasset Outdoor Track 2002 Recap

    The Manhasset Outdoor Track Team members enjoyed another successful track season, continuing their reign as division champs, and going on to earn respectable rankings in the County meet and in the State Qualifying meet. The track team continued to write Ds on their arms, proving that its runners had thoughts of their much loved, deceased coach Al Dawson on their minds. The Manhasset Outdoor Track Team showed determination and hard work, as the end results demonstrate. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Manhasset PAL Softball Championship

    The third and fourth grade girl's softball championship game for the Manhasset PAL was played Sunday June 9, 2002 at Shelter Rock School. The championship teams were the A's and the Mets. John Markham and Frank Trotti coached the "A's". Jim Accardi, Linda Gambino and Bob Palma coached the "Mets." It was a high-energy game with both teams demonstrating great softball skill with some exciting batting and fielding. Pinpoint pitching was demonstrated by the A's Lisa Dawes and Catherine Avallone and by the Mets Juliette deVenoge and Jackie Palma. The Mets ended up winning this Championship game with a final score of 5 - 0 led by strong batting from Julia Zimm, Eileen Kitt, and Olivia Evans. Both teams shared the excitement of a championship game with top sportsmanship all around and combined team photos. Congratulations to both teams. FULL STORY
