MHS Boys Track Team Wins, Sets Records

After the Manhasset High School Boys Varsity Track Team finished its Conference IV championship season undefeated (14-0) and won the 14th annual Booster Club-Allen Dawson relays at home on May 17, the team was peaking for its 25th division championship, the county championships and the New York State qualifiers.

Sixteen athletes made All-County based on their performances in that meet:

100 meters: Damion Williams, Jamiel Hendricks

400 meters: Andre Montague (51.1), Truman Lam

400 I Hurdles: Scott Chiou, Garrett Spitz

110 H. Hurdles: Scott Chiou

Long jump: Jamiel Hendricks, Robert Keizer, Troy Williams

Triple jump: Robert Keizer, Andre Vanderpool, Tamish Alexander

High jump: Garrett Spitz

Robert Keizer was county champion in the triple jump and jumped 46'8 3/4" this week for overall A, B, C champion for state meet. Keizer's jump is the best on Long Island this year and third best ever at Manhasset. Jamiel Hendricks qualified for a record five state meets in the long jump at the state qualifier. The other all-county athletes were in relay events and were record breakers.

4x100 meter relay: David Young, Jamiel Hendricks, Damion Williams, Blake Redford--42.9 seconds, school record; third best Nassau County A, B, C.

4x400 meter relay: Andre Montague (51.8), Troy Williams (53.2), Anthony McLean (52.8), Truman Lam (52.0) 3:29.8, sixth all time, third best Nassau County A, B, C.

4x800 meter relay: All-County with Anthony McLean, Chris Mirabile, Nick Vlachos, Yousuf Qureshi; at state qualifier Jesse Cohen and Dan Treitler ran so others could run 4x400.

1600 meters: Jesse Cohen, Darren Wray, Yousuf Qureshi.

Shot-put: Pat Hawkins, Dave Lisner

400 meters: Chris Mirabile

800 meters: Anthony McLean

100 meters: Blake Redford, David Young

110 hurdles: Alvin Wong

High jump: Dan Treitler

The New York State meet is this weekend, June 7 and 8 in Rochester, NY. Robert Keizer (triple jump) and Jamiel Hendricks (long jump) will represent Manhasset.
