We received a call from Grace Pisciotta, chairwoman of the American Legion Post 304 Auxiliary's Buddy Poppy Committee. She wanted us to thank our readers for their generosity to those members of the auxiliary who collect funds every Memorial Day through the sale of these poppies. The funds go to the support of disabled veterans so the cause is a worthy one.

It is impossible to drive around Manhasset these days without being delighted by the beauty of the flowering trees, shrubs and flowers. Is it more beautiful this year than it has been in the past or do we say that every year?

Finally we urge all our readers to attend the Manhasset Public Library's board of directors meeting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12. Plans for a new library will be presented and the input of local residents is being sought. As one who recently had to get down on all fours to read the number on videotape on the bottom shelf, I can attest to the fact that we need more room. Let's see what the architects have devised for a new library.
