The recent demolition of the Waldbaum's building at the Americana shopping center is a doleful reminder of how badly our community needs a supermarket. The Port Washington King Kullen is just too far.

The proposed King Kullen at the Filene's shopping center is ideally located to conveniently serve all families in our community. King Kullen runs a clean, well-stocked operation, as is evident to anyone who shops at their Port Washington store. While a small group of vocal neighbors continue to protest the approval of the Manhasset King Kullen, we should keep in mind that every detail of the site plan was reviewed by the town's professional planning staff before the final approval was granted by the board.

King Kullen's opposition had ample opportunity to make their case and they lost. Now they are being obstructionist, to the detriment of the rest of the community. Sooner or later, the Manhasset King Kullen will be built as planned and the opposition will shop there too.

I hope to see construction start soon.
