There's a song we remember from long ago that ended up

"You'll find your happiness lies

Right under your eyes,

Back in your own backyard."

A number of people have observed that in the past six months there seems to be a tendency for many of us to stay closer to home, to family and friends. We here in Manhasset are extraordinarily blessed to be able to do that and not lack for anything. As noted in last week's and this week's Manhasset Press, we have two world class hospitals right here in our neighborhood. We also have the opportunity for cultural experiences minutes from home. We have enjoyed a number of musical events at the Tilles Center this winter and spring, the most recent of which was a wonderful production of Pinafore, only 15 minutes door to door. Even closer is the Nassau County Museum of Art with dazzling exhibits both indoors and out in its extraordinary collection of sculpture, to say nothing of a personal favorite, the Tee Ridder Museum of Miniatures. Just this morning we attended a press conference at Old Westbury Gardens which officially opens for the season this weekend. Old Westbury House is filled with flowers, original furnishings and fine art. This year there is a special exhibit called "Halcyon Days: A Tribute to a Bygone Era," in which you can see mannequins dressed in clothing gathered from the attics of the Phipps and Grace families and their friends. There are also weekly garden tours and lectures. It's all there for the taking and you don't have to cross a bridge or a tunnel to enjoy it.
