Matthew P. Dwyer of Manhasset and Westhampton Beach died on Friday, April 4, 2002 from cardiac arrest. He is survived by his wife Frances, sons Matthew Jr. and James, daughters Marie Adams, Frances Skeris and Catherine Ruddy and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 11, 1926. He graduated from Brooklyn Prep in 1944 and from the College of the Holy Cross in 1949.
Mr. Dwyer was a veteran of World War II and served in General Patton's Army in the Battle of the Bulge. He received commendations for his service and was discharged in 1945.
He married Frances Turecamo in 1952 and worked as an insurance broker until his retirement. Mr. Dwyer was a resident of Manhasset for 37 years and a summer resident of Westhampton Beach for 36 years.
Funeral services were held at the Church of St. Mary in Manhasset on April 9.
Ethel N. Bechtold, 85, of Plandome Manor, died on April 20, 2002. She was the beloved wife of Edwin, loving mother of Ruth, cherished grandmother of Virginia and Brian. Visitation was on April 22 at the Fairchild Funeral Chapel, 1570 Northern Blvd., Manhasset. Funeral service was also held at the funeral home on April 23. Burial was at Lutheran Cemetery, Middle Village, NY. Family has asked that donations be made to any Cancer fund or any charity of one's choice.
