The Blitz played their first game of the season in a cold 40 degree temperature against the Wantagh Warriors. Coach Bitter was worried his team was not going to be ready because of the Easter Vacation. Many of his players were away for their first practices so the coaches were glad to see their team control the game from the outset. The Blitz went out to a fast 4-0 lead on goals by a goal by Belinsky and Himler and 2 quick goals by Bitter.

As soon as the lead was four goals the 3 pass rule was put in effect which gave the Warriors the ball in the Blitz end of the field. Great defensive midfield play by Petersen and Papa kept the Warriors at bay (or wishing they were sailing on it). Once the Warriors scored in the second half The Blitz took control of the face off again. Nine out of the 10 Face-offs were controlled by the Blitz throughout the game

In the second half Jonathon Labib took charge with a goal and a beautiful assist to Himler. If not for a great Wantagh goalie Manhasset may have scored 14 or 15 goals. During the second half The Blitz defense continued to hold fast on their end of the field. The D unit was made up of Coleman, Thomas, Sauvigne, Hayes, Kenny and Fradella. They all put on a steel curtain performance only to be backed up by a top performance in goal by Grunsberg.

This day was to be Manhasset's from start to finish. Now its back to the practice field for the entire team before next week's game.

The 4th Grade Girls Travel team (Blue) opened their season with a decisive win over Garden City, outscoring the powerful team 9-5. The team led the entire game, beating a team that crushed them 10-1 last year. Spectacular offense was led by Ali Cisek, with four goals, and Katharine Pecorino, with three goals and four assists. Also scoring were Katharine Breen and Meghan Grimm, each with one goal. The team wouldn't have been successful without the great saves by the goalies, Claire Drago and Katharine Breen, with a combined nine saves. Alexandra Toes and Taryn Wassmer helped with great defensive play.

The girls had a disappointing loss to Rockville Centre on Saturday, losing 6-5. After opening the game with a 3-0 lead, the fourth-grade girls succumbed to a strong Rockville Centre team. Scoring again were attacks Ali Cisek, with two goals, Katharine Pecorino, with one goal, and Katharine Breen, with one goal. Also scoring a goal against RVC was newcomer Maggie Reichenbach at center, who also showed great promise with solid face-offs and ground ball play. Fending off countless shots by RVC were goalies Claire Drago and Caroline Connolly. The team also welcomes the terrific playing by newcomers Caitlin Coor and Samantha Pina at midfield, and Emily Veraart on defense.

Contributing to the impressive play were midfielders Christina Vivinetto, Megan Lightcap, Kaitlin Macedonio, Marianna Geiger and Kaela Sprotte, with Mary Seaman at center. Also strong on attack was Allison Cogan. In an unusual move this year, Manhasset has sent two powerful teams into the "A" Division, playing against the best girls in the division. The girls appreciate the great coaching from Coaches Toes, Breen, Pecorino and Geiger.
