King Kullen Plans Still on Hold
Now that Waldbaum's has been closed for two months, many residents of Manhasset are finding their grocery shopping inconvenient. Certainly there are alternatives, but most people would like to see a full-service supermarket in town. One Munsey Park resident says that she finds she has to make long-range plans to get her shopping done. "I have to try to figure out if I have some reason to be in Port Washington so I can shop there," she says. A North Strathmore woman told the Manhasset Press that she has to plan to spend at least two extra hours a week doing her shopping. A Flower Hill mother of four says she goes to Trunz for her groceries, Whole Foods for her produce and organic juices and milk, the delicatessen for cold cuts and a butcher for meat.

Manhasset Post 304 Supports Blue Star Banners
Manhasset Post 304 of the American Legion is joining with the American Legion nationwide to bring back the Blue Star Service Banner. The Blue Star Service Banner was designed and patented in 1917 by World War I Army Captain Robert L. Queissner of the 5th Ohio Infantry who had two sons serving on the front lines. It quickly became the unofficial symbol of a child in the service.

Honors for Manhasset Swimmers
The Manhasset Varsity Boys Swim Team received honors at the Nassau County Boys Swimming Championship and the New York State Swimming Qualifiers. This young team seems determined to alter history. At counties, personal bests were achieved by Alex Kassl with a 200 free of 2:06.12 (16th place) 110 fly of 1:01.17 (12th place); John Lawrence with a 200 free of 2:13.76 (26th place) 500 free of 5:56.35 (18th place); Lorenzo Napolitano with a 100 back of 1:08.52 (17th place); Kevin Clemency with a 50 free of 23.97 (9th place) 100 free of 53.90 (11th place) and Alex Horowitz with a 50 free of 23.41 (4th place) and 100 free of 52.31 (5th place). The 400 free relay had a time of 3:45.97 by team members Alex Horowitz, Kevin Clemency, Alex Kassl and Lorenzo Napolitano. Additional swims were the 200 medley relay at 2:03.90 (13th place) by Lorenzo Napolitano, Greg Roberts, Mike Karges and Mike Bluhm, the 200 free relay at 1:40.40 (8th place) with Alex Horowitz, Kevin Clemency, Alex Kassl and Mike Bluhm; Mike Karges in the 200 IM (27th place) 100 fly (24th place and Greg Roberts 100 breaststroke (29th place).

Girls Varsity Lacrosse Continues to Roll
Manhasset Girls Varsity Lacrosse won three games during the vacation week, first overwhelming New Hyde Park 17-4. The defense set the tone in this game as Katie Killeen, MaryKate Denihan and Lindsay Buhr constantly harassed the opposing attack. Goalies Stella Kim (eight saves) and Ashley Devins (five saves) continued their great play. Offensively, the load was shared as Kate Breslin (4g, 4a), Meredith Hotarek (3g, 1a), Ariana Parasco (3g, 1a), Kendra Bernard (4g), Lauren Taylor (3a), Juliette White (1g, 1a) and Aly English (1g) all got on the board.
