Benny P. Zabicki, age 85, went to be with the Lord on March 24, 2002. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who lived a life full of love for his God, country and family. A native of Manhasset, he was a postal service employee for over 35 years and an active volunteer fireman for his community for over 30 years.
Answering his nation's call to arms, he honorably served in the US Army from 1942-1945 in the European Theatre. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Irene; two sons, William and wife Donna of San Antonio, TX and Benjamin of Glen Head; daughter, Judith of Glen Head; three grandchildren, William Jr. and wife Lori, Karen Zabicki and Kelly Martin and husband, Jay; one great-grandson Benjamin Zabicki and numerous family and friends.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, 10 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment with military honors followed in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lighthouse for the Blind or the American Heart Association. Anne B. Simpson, 87, died on March 6. She was a longtime resident of Manhasset and a member of the church of St. Mary's. She served as a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital and was active in their Thrift Shop. She was the wife of the late John A. Simpson and is survived by Robert Simpson of Basking Ridge, NJ and William and Joy Simpson of Manhasset. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kris Kopan, Gayle Iandoli, Blake Simpson, Joseph and Mark Simpson and by her 10 great grandchildren. There will be a private memorial mass celebrating her life on April 7.
