On Tuesday night in front of 2,000 fans at Hofstra, St. Mary's Gaels became the first CHSAA boy's basketball team to win five straight titles. After 10 lead changes, MVP Mamadou Diakhate marked St. Dominic's Tim Doyle, (CHSAA player of the year), holding him scoreless for the final five minutes. St. Mary's scored the final seven points to secure the 42-39 win. St. Mary's faces Fordham Prep or Iona Prep in the Class B Downstate Final at Fordham University on Sunday.

Gaels coach Tim Cluess also broke a record last night, one set by his former coach at St. Agnes who won four straight titles. For Cluess, breaking records on the court against a team as talented as St. Dom's is simply "tough," but not as tough as last season when his 3-year-old son T.J. was receiving treatment for leukemia. This season T.J.'s health has improved tremendously and to Cluess that is "more important than anything."
