In one of the best seasons in the history of the Varsity boys swim team, Manhasset won the Co-Conference Championship, with a conference record of 7-1. Led by Coach Matt McGrane, every member of the team contributed to its success, racking up team wins as well as personal records throughout this incredible season.
This young team, led by junior co-captains Kevin Clemency and Alex Horowitz, continued its winning ways at the Feb. 2 Nassau County Division Championship meet at Eisenhower Park. The 200 free relay team of Kevin Clemency, Alex Kassl, Mike Bluhm and Alex Horowitz posted an impressive 1:40:00, edging out perennial rival Garden City for first place. Kevin Clemency, Alex Kassl, Lorenzo Napolitano and Alex Horowitz also captured All-Division honors with a time of 3:46.07 for third place in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, posting times of 24.60 (third place) and 54.91 (third place), respectively.
In addition to these All-Division awards, the team racked up personal bests throughout the day, including the 200-medley relay team of Lorenzo Napolitano, Greg Roberts, Mike Karges and Mike Bluhm, with a time of 2:02.60.
Personal bests in individual events were recorded for Alex Kassl and John Love in the 200 freestyle, with times of 2:06.78 and 2:43.05, respectively. The 200 individual medley saw personal bests for three Manhasset High School swimmers: Alex Horowitz 2:16.28; Mike Karges 2:35.08; Will Lopez 2:45.94.
