Five MHS Seniors Semifinalists in Science Research Competition
For the past decade, Manhasset High School students have consistently distinguished themselves as semifinalists in the Intel (formerly Westinghouse) Science Talent Search. On Jan. 16, Manhasset was in the national spotlight once more as five research students were named among the nation's 300 brightest and best.

North Hempstead Names Dwyer to Board
After the appointment of North Hempstead Town Councilwoman Doreen Banks to be Nassau County Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and General Services by County Executive Thomas Suozzi, the North Hempstead Town Board chose Thomas K. Dwyer to replace her on the board. At a press conference on Jan. 17, May Newburger, North Hempstead town supervisor, introduced Mr. Dwyer and announced other significant North Hempstead appointments. Matthew J. Miner will replace Arthur Gianelli as director of operations; Bonnie Chaiken is the new town attorney and counsel to the Solid Waste Management Authority; Helen Chen is town comptroller; David Wasserman is commissioner of buildings and commissioner of planning and Gil Anderson is commissioner of public works.

MHS Crew Gets Ready for Spring
Manhasset Crew Team has completed its second exhilarating season of fall rowing. During the fall season, the crew team rowed in the Frostbite Regatta at Center Island Beach. The team competed against clubs cross the island including Chaminade, St. Anthony's, Half Hallow Hills, Our Lady of Mercy, Huntington, Friends Academy, Cold Spring Harbor and Oyster Bay. The men's four, rowed by TJ Connolly, Denis Judge, Paul Calluzzo, John Lawrence and coxswain Anne Rubin, won the bronze medal in their race. The mixed varsity four, rowed by Bryan Meskell, Denis Judge, Emily Faeth, Tim Miller and coxswain Anne Rubin, came within meters of winning their heat.

The last day to register for Manhasset PAL Girls Youth Lacrosse is Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the Manhasset Sports Shop on Plandome Road during business hours, due to team league deadlines.
