The Sportsmen had to overcome a two-game elimination to qualify for the playoffs. They then proceeded to beat the second- and first-place teams to win the 2001 championship season title.

The Manhasset PAL offers and participation is encouraged in both of its two related lacrosse programs for boys, the Travel Team Program and the Intramural Program. The Manhasset PAL program is intended for use by members of the Manhasset community

The Intramural Program has been the cornerstone of Manhasset PAL Lacrosse for over 35 years. In the Intramural Program, Manhasset boys are placed onto teams that play against each other on Saturday mornings. Fathers and other young men from the community coach the program. Most of these intramural coaches have played lacrosse at the high school, college or professional levels. There are three divisions in the program:

The Junior and Senior Programs run approximately twelve weeks, beginning the first Saturday in March. These programs emphasize further skill development, yet allow the boys to play different positions and practice their skills in a game environment. Cost is $75.

There are no try-outs. Every boy who signs up will play an equal amount in the intramural program. Boys may play intramurals whether or not they play on a travel team.

The Clinic Program runs approximately eight weeks, beginning in the middle of March. The emphasis of the program is on teaching the fundamentals of lacrosse and providing a fun introduction to the sport. Drills are mixed with contests and scrimmages to keep the boys' attention. Cost is $75.

The Manhasset PAL enters travel teams into the Nassau County PAL Youth Lacrosse League. In the travel team league, teams from Manhasset play against travel teams from other towns. The travel teams commence on the first Sunday in March. The Travel Team Program requires significant additional commitment over the Intramural Program, including:

Weekdays - Practices. Typically two days per week (1 - 2 hrs long).

Saturday - Intramural games. All travel team players in grades 3 through 6 must play in the Intramural Program. The 7th-8th grade team will have practice on Saturdays in lieu of intramurals.

Sunday - Travel games. Travel games are played on Sunday in Manhasset and away in other towns.

In Manhasset, there are typically two or three travel teams in each grade 3 through 6 and one combined team in grades 7/8(for boys who are not otherwise participating in a middle school program). Cost: $125.00 (includes intramurals)

If a boy has made the commitment to play on a travel team and regularly attends practice, he will play at least one quarter of each travel game on Sunday. All travel team players are required to play in the Intramural Program. All boys are encouraged to play both travel and intramurals.

For the 7th-8th-grade team priority will be given to members of the Manhasset and Port Washington community.
