Patricia C. Kempen of Manhasset died on Nov. 25, 2001. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Stanley D. Kempen. She is survived by her son, Michael, of Douglaston, NY, and by her sister, Denise Keily of Las Vegas, Nevada. She will be in repose at the Fairchild Funeral Home, 1570 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 3, at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City. Interment will be in Calverton National Cemetery.
After a long illness, William A. Boyd peacefully departed this life at his home on Oct. 21, 2001. William A. Boyd was born April 21, 1921 in Manhasset. He was the oldest child of the late Edward and Cora Boyd.
William attended the Manhasset Public Schools. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country during WWII and enjoyed sharing experiences he had while stationed in Germany. While on leave from his military duty in 1942, he was joined in holy matrimony to Louise Boyd who predeceased him. After receiving an honorary discharge from the Army, he returned to Long Island and established a floor waxing business in Great Neck. His success as a businessman brought honor and pride to his family and community.
Bill was an active member at his church, the United Methodist Church of Port Washington. He was a member of the board of trustees and an active participant in the Bible Study class. He was always the first person to arrive at the church on Sunday mornings so that he could set up the refreshments he provided for the Bible Study group.
Throughout his life, Bill was active in various organizations that promoted the betterment of humankind. The organizations included a lifetime membership in the NAACP and serving as vice president on the board of directors of the Imani Cultural Activities Association, Inc. One of his favorite charities was the United Negro College Fund.
No matter what time of day it was, he greeted you with, "Good morning." His explanation for this greeting was that any moment could be a brand new start. His wit, humor and kindness made a loving and lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
In 1982, William was joined in holy matrimony to Victoria Boyd. Through this union, he became the father of Amy, Wogbe and Nuku. In the year 2000, a grandson, Justin, was born.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Victoria Boyd, his sons and daughters-in-law, Wogbe and Nancy Ofori, Nuku and Stacy Ofori and his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Michael Atta and grandson, Justin. He also leaves to cherish his memory, two sisters, Ruth Patillo and Dorothy Wells, one brother, Charles Boyd, one brother-in-law, Everett Wells, two sisters-in-law, Alzada Boyd and Myrtle Boyd, two goddaughters, Veronica Belt and Alice Glasco and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
