St. Mary's CYO basketball intramural registrations for all boys and girls, grades 1 through 8 begin this Sunday. The registrations will all take place at St. Mary's Wiest Hall and the dates will be Nov. 18, Dec. 2 and Dec. 9. The time will be 9:30 a.m. to noon on each of those dates.
The boys program will begin at various gyms (depending on the age group), and will start on Saturday, Dec. 8. The location and specific times will be available at registrations. Please register early to be sure of starting on time.
The girls program will begin in early January, however, registrations still must end on Dec. 9. Locations and times for the first sessions will be distributed at the registration desk.
Last year, almost 700 players in Manhasset participated in the CYO/PAL intramural program. To be successful, we need lots of volunteer coaches, scorekeepers and referees. Please try to sign up for one of these functions during registration.
In the last games of the PYA Manhasset PAL Junior Football League season, the Colts in royal blue, sponsored by Manhasset Community Chest, remained undefeated and won the Championship of the League by defeating the Broncos in navy blue. Sponsored by Frank's Pizza by the close score of 13-12. The Colts scored two touchdowns in the first period on a 12-yard run by George Racanelli, who also scored the extra point, and a 9-yard run by Tommy Jester. The second extra point was stopped. The Broncos came back in the third period on a 37-yard run by Matt Quirk and in the fourth period on a 13-yard run by Ricky Buhr. The point after touchdown was stopped by both touchdowns. For the Champion Colts, Tony Froccaro guided the team from his quarterback position and Jack Meyer, Brendan Denihan, Frank Miscioscia, Cody White and Noah Todaro played well. For the Broncos, Bob Ferris, Mack Galvin, Kyle Smith, Ty Adams, John Vigilis and Joseph Sullivan were all over the field.
In the second game, the Eagles in green, sponsored by Port Washington Community Chest defeated the Ravens in purple, sponsored by Manhasset Sports Shop by the score of 20-6. The Eagles scored in the first period on a 60-yard run by Marlon Williams. The point-after touchdown was made by Kevin Heenam. In the second period Williams ran 24 yards for the touchdown and Heenan again scored the point-after touchdown. Steven Levy ran 20 yards for the Green's final score and the point after touchdown was stopped. For the Ravens, Nick Perni ran 2 yards for the touchdown after good runs by Doug Bosswick and John Duvnjak. Playing well for the Green were Patrick Cosgrove, Ben Gonzalez, Frank Morelli, Chris Wands and Fred Emmerich. For the Purple, Matt Hull, Kyle Johnson, Mike McCabe, Nick Omeltchenko, Matt Reitman and PT Tierney played strong games.
In the final game the Raiders in black, sponsored by Harbor Deli, secured its position in second place by defeating the Bucks in red sponsored by Port Washington Fire Department. In the first period Duncan Clancy ran 50 yards for the touchdown and Timmy Ponds scored the point after. Connor English also ran 25 yards for a touchdown in the first period and 22 yards for a touchdown in the second period. After the second touchdown the point-after was scored on a pass from Clancy to James Vessa. On defense, JP Reinfret, English and Matt Conway all recovered fumbles and Jeff Mollinari, Chris Cook, Ryan Corcoran, Jerry Lange, Josh Potter and Sean McNamara had strong games. For the Red, Joe Vanderberg ran well and Alex Justin, Brendan Johns, Perry Dube, Kyle Lewis, Sam Silver, Pat McCulloh and Andrew Weil made many tackles and Kevin Coleman recovered a fumble.
