Twenty-year Manhasset resident Mark Sauvigne has officially announced his candidacy for Manhasset Park District Commissioner. Sauvigne is very involved in the town of Manhasset and is qualified to serve the community and the Manhasset Park District.
"The last two months has been a period of reflection and redefinition. What is really important in our lives and community? What can we do to protect our quality of life? How can we make Manhasset better? My decision to run for Manhasset Park District Commissioner is the way I can make a greater impact on Manhasset," stated Sauvigne. "I think we need to make sure there is accountability in the Park District and I am interested in working with Commissioners Robert and Rolston to continue the reforms of the Park District."
Sauvigne was embarrassed by the assertions of mismanagement by the State Comptroller's Office in their report on the MPD policies and procedures. He feels his background in business and management will help Commissioners Roberts and Rolston make the Park District a better-run organization.
Sauvigne has some specific ideas on what he can do as Manhasset Park District Commissioners. "I support efforts to establish a fitting memorial to Manhasset residents lost in the horrific attack at the World Trade Center. I will fight to make sure the Whitney Estate is preserved as parkland and we get some of that land for ball fields. Establish more senior citizen parking and sidewalk benches and fight for our fair share of the town tax increase. I will oppose tiered parking, vans and buses from other communities using our facilities to drop out of town commuters and work to make sure Parking Permit reform continues."
Sauvigne is a 20-year resident of Manhasset. He graduated from St. Mary's High School and is very involved in the Alumni Association. He is also on the Manhasset Athletic Advisory Committee, Manhasset Booster Club, CYO, PAL and a founding member of the Manhasset Baseball League. Mark, his wife Mary Frances and his three children are involved in many aspects of Manhasset life. Mark has a desire to serve the whole community.
"I would appreciate your vote on Dec. 11 at MLFD Co. 1 from 5 to 9 p.m. I have a keen insight into the needs of Manhasset and all its residents." Sauvigne said, "I am committed to making Manhasset a better place. I will work hard to serve our community. I believe I am the right choice for tomorrow's Manhasset - today."
