On Sept. 29, the Manhasset boys and girls cross-country teams raised more than $2500 for the World Trade Center disaster relief fund. The athletes from all grade levels, 7 through 12, were organized by the boys captain, Jesse Cohen (11). The athletes ran laps on the track and collected pledges. Some athletes ran up to seven miles and collected as much as $500.

Manhasset boys varsity cross country team has so far had a very strong season, finishing with eight wins and five losses. The team finished third in its league and fifth in its conference. Saturday, Oct. 27, the team finished fifth in a field of 14 teams to qualify for the county finals on Nov. 3. The team has been led all year by Captain Jesse Cohen (all-conference, all-division); super freshman Tom Papain (9) and Brendan McDonough (9) (all-division); Pat Bennett (11) (all-division); Dan Trieten (11) (all-division); Upton Au (11); George Ehrhardt (10): Pete Cobos (9) and William Papain (12).
