Josephine Mildred LaRosa Cuneo was born in Brooklyn, May 21, 1931. She was a longtime resident of Manhasset, Hampton Bays and recently West Palm Beach, FL. She passed away October 10, 2001. A former third-grade teacher at Shelter Rock Elementary School for 25 years, Jo began her career in September 1970, nine months after the death of her husband John. She attended Adelphi University and received her Master's Degree from the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University. "Mrs. Cuneo" was adored by hundreds of children that remained in contact with her long after they left school. Her influence and love touched and guided the lives of many children. Inspired by the loss of first son Peter at age three, she was an ardent fundraiser for the Leukemia Foundation. Always a devout practitioner of faith, Jo was a loyal member of the Catholic community. In her retirement, she pursued her enjoyment of golf, her love for family, friends and passion for her grandchildren. Her children, John, Jacqueline, Maria, Paul and wife Nancy, James and wife Ellen, her grandchildren, Jenifer, Zachary, John Ross, Marascia, and Katharine Grace as well as her sister Eleanor LaLena celebrate her life. A mass of Christian memorial was celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Manhasset, the 16th of October. Donations may be made to the National Leukemia Society.

Virginia Belden Miller of Topsham, ME, formerly of Camden, ME and Plandome, NY, died peacefully and pain-free on Oct. 6, 2001, at the age of 85, following a yearlong battle with cancer.

Virginia was a graduate of Friends Academy on Long Island, attended Swarthmore College in PA and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Connecticut College with a master's in music. Her love of music followed her throughout her life: Singing in the choir and playing the organ at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Port Washington, where she and her late husband, Ed, were longtime members; teaching piano, while her three children were growing up; playing piano in the Music Study Club in Port Washington; and playing for Sunday evening vespers services at the Highlands retirement community in Topsham, ME. Her love of people and a constant desire to help those less fortunate than she, led Jinny and Ed to do volunteer work for the Camden Health Care Center, the Pen Bay Medical Center and drive many miles for Meals on Wheels. She was a member of PEO. Her love of the outdoors was exemplified by the many years of sailing she did with Ed from Meteors, while growing up, to racing Penquin dinghies up and down the east coast - summer and winter, to cruising Long Island Sound and Penobscot Bay. She was also an avid gardener. And there were always her cats: Tag-along, Susie, Cinders and Sam, Bos'n and, finally, her beloved Maine coon cat Tag.

She is survived by her children: Nancy M. Chopchitz and her husband, Roman, of Framingham, MA; Colonel Robert E. Miller and his wife, Mickey, of Riverside, CA; and Donald B. Miller and his wife, Nancy, of North Reading, MA. Six grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive her.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at South Church, 41 Central Street, Andover, MA on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service and a collation at the church immediately following the service. Interment will be at St. Stephen's Episcopal for the immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Wayside Hospice, 266 Cochituate Road, Wayland, MA 01778; or to the Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Miller Memorial Fund at St. Stephen's Church, 9 Carlton Avenue, Port Washington, NY 11050.
