The Manhasset Lady Jaguars (Under 11) Soccer team started the season off with a convincing win over the Rockville Centre Shooting Stars. At the season opener the fifth grade girls easily defeated Rockville Centre, gaining a 2-0 lead within the first ten minutes of play, both goals scored by the unstoppable Megan Tenet. Katie Wang with a long distance shot closed out the first half, leaving the Lady Jags with a 3-0 half time lead.
Christine Maimone's bid for a shutout ended when the opposing team narrowed the score to 3-1, with an unstoppable shot in the upper 90. Christine's long punts led to the next goal, completing Megan Tenet's first hat trick of the season. The game's excitement continued as Victoria Fink's strategic positioning and two way play in the midfield created many opportunities for forward newcomer Jullianna Gallo and Angelika Iordanou to make several close shots on goal.
Newcomer Italia Smith anchored an incredible defensive line made up of Anna Christine deVenoge, Christina Casa Nova and Christina Hanlon. This indestructible line limited Rockville Centre's scoring opportunities and successfully kept the ball in offensive play at most times.
Midfielder's Rebecca Wolfe, Victoria Fink and Cristie Leondis were instrumental in strategically maneuvering the ball into offensive play and assisting forward Angelika Iordanou to score the final goal of the game ending the game with a final score of 5-1.A Great Start for the Lady Jags!
