Terrorists Destroy Twin Towers
Tuesday, Sept. 11 - At 8:45 a.m. a hijacked American Airlines passenger jet crashed into one of the 110-story Twin Towers at the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. 18 minutes later a second hijacked American Airlines passenger jet crashed into the other tower. Both crashes caused firey explosions and within an hour and a half both of the towers collapsed.
Manhasset Teachers' Contract Accord Is Official
Representatives of the Manhasset Education Association and the Board of Education held a special meeting and reception on Monday, Sept. 10. At that time, the ratified, agreed upon contract between the Manhasset Public Schools and the Manhasset Educators Association (MEA) was approved by the Board of Education. The MEA is the bargaining unit for the district's 248-member teaching staff. Its membership includes certified teachers. The new contract is retroactive to July 1, 2001, and continues through June 30, 2004.
Local Stars in First MLL Championship
This past Labor Day weekend, three Manhasset lacrosse players make history by winning the inaugural Major League Lacrosse championship. John Gagliardi, Tim Goettelmann and Matt O'Kelly, all from Manhasset, were three starters for the Long Island Lizards. The Lizards beat the Baltimore Bayhawks in the first season of the new professional Major League Lacrosse (MLL) that began this past June.
Manhasset High School Field Hockey Teams Invited to Disney Tournament
The Varsity and JV Manhasset Girl's field hockey teams, coached by Steve Sproul and Brandy Miller have been invited for the first time to participate in the Disney Wide World of Sports Field Hockey Tournament in Orlando, FL this September.
