The Manhasset Board of Education and the Manhasset Education Association (MEA) have reached a tentative agreement to a new three-year contract effective July 1, 2001, through June 30, 2004. The MEA is the bargaining unit for the district's 248-member teaching staff. Its membership includes certified teachers.

Dr. Thomas Dolan, assistant superintendent for personnel, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement that was concluded very early on the morning of Aug. 29. This memorandum, a precursor to a formal agreement, was announced at the Aug. 30 board meeting. Mrs. Barbara Reiss, MEA president, along with the MEA negotiating team, made the announcement to teachers at the Superintendent's Conference Day on Aug. 29. A formal ratification by both sides must follow in order to make the agreement official.

The MEA membership is scheduled to approve the plan in the very near future. The board will then officially ratify the agreement. More information regarding the contract accord will be made available following the board's and MEA's official ratification of the agreement.
