Before long the summer will be over and our local organizations will be back for the fall schedules. When that happens there will also be a resurgence in the publicity that you send us. We would like to remind you of a few guidelines concerning news releases and pictures that are sent to appear in the Manhasset Press. These days the ways to send us information are many and varied. There is the traditional method of mailing us the information and photos, of course. You can also FAX printed material and you can e -mail us at e-brennan@antonnews.com. Sending pictures over e-mail sometimes works depending upon the quality of the pictures. Speaking of pictures, we are often asked to return them to the sender. If you send us a stamped self-addressed envelope, we will try to return them, but we must admit that sometimes they are lost or misplaced. It is so easy today to get a second set that you might better do that than count on them being returned. And if the picture is very precious to you, you probably should think seriously before letting it out of your hands.
As far as calendar items are concerned, we should have them a week before the issue in which you want them to appear. In other words, since the paper comes out on Thursday, we should have all calendar items no later than the previous Thursday. News items can be accepted up until noon on the Monday before the paper comes out. We understand that, as far as sports events are concerned, most of them happen over the weekend and you can't get them in any earlier than you do. The paper is actually printed on Tuesday so it's not much use getting us information late on Tuesday or on Wednesday. By that time it is being printed in order to get it to the post office so that you can get it in the mail on Thursday.
All that being said, we hope you will continue to send us your news. It's what makes a local paper interesting and everyone is interested in the births, graduations, engagements and weddings of their friends and neighbors. We thank you for sharing those occasions with us.
