Munsey Park Mayor Harry Nicolaides has announced that the village will begin the rehabilitation of Park Avenue on Monday, Aug. 20. The work will begin at the easternmost part of the avenue, between Port Washington Boulevard and Morse Lane.
The project will consist primarily of pavement repairs, curb replacement and resurfacing on Park Avenue and will extend into the intersecting streets of Borglum Road and Trumbull Road. A representative of the village's engineering firm, Dvirka & Bartilucci, will be on site during construction.
It is anticipated that this portion of Park Avenue will be closed down at times. To avoid delays, it is recommended that drivers find alternate routes to and from Port Washington Boulevard during the construction period.
Work on Munsey Park's Hunt Lane walkway, including planting, is complete and what was a utilitarian walkway in poor condition is now a long, narrow park. The new walkway, bordered in pavers, winds through lush plantings. In addition, the concrete walkway and bushes along Manhasset Woods Road were removed and replaced. Mayor Nicolaides expressed the board's appreciation of the cooperation of the surrounding residents, the school officials and others using the school property. It was a long and arduous project, but has resulted in a resounding success.
The Munsey Park board of trustees has awarded the 2001 Miscellaneous Road and Sidewalk Improvement Requirements Contract, which includes the replacement of approximately 550 feet of sidewalk along the east side of Manhasset Woods Road between Bellows Lane and Revere Road. Other work will be authorized by the board of trustees as needed, based upon the recommendation of the village's engineers, Dvirka & Bartilucci.
