New York State Assemblyman Thomas DiNapoli and Glen Cove Mayor Thomas Suozzi, Democratic candidates for Nassau County executive, squared off on Monday night in the first of three debates sponsored by the League of Women Voters.

Fatal Accident Claims Doctor's Life
Police report that Dr. Robert Rubino, 40, of Crown Top Road in Strathmore in Manhasset, was driving westbound on Montauk Highway en route to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip at about 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5. He was killed when his 2001 Volvo left the roadway and struck some large rocks and a telephone pole, causing the vehicle to roll over. Dr. Rubino was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:05 a.m.

Manhasset 9-10-Year-Olds Win the Coveted Williamsport Flag!
The Williamsport Tournament has been considered the gold standard of youth baseball for the past 55 years. Each year Little League holds its world series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and crowns a world champion for 11-12-year-olds, and state champions for 9-10-year-olds.

Manhasset Players Integral to Empire Lacrosse Gold Medal Win
The Long Island Women's Lacrosse Team enjoyed a stirring 12-10 victory over Hudson Valley in the finals of the Empire State Games held at Cortland SUNY on Saturday, July 28. The 2001 Empire State Games marked the first time that Women's Lacrosse was officially entered in the games. This accomplishment was due in great part to the efforts of Manhasset resident Bob Costello to whom the players and their families are extremely grateful.
