Police report that Dr. Robert Rubino, 40, of Crown Top Road in Strathmore in Manhasset, was driving westbound on Montauk Highway en route to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip at about 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5. He was killed when his 2001 Volvo left the roadway and struck some large rocks and a telephone pole, causing the vehicle to roll over. The Williamsport Tournament has been considered the gold standard of youth baseball for the past 55 years. Each year Little League holds its world series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and crowns a world champion for 11-12-year-olds, and state champions for 9-10-year-olds. FULL STORY

The Long Island Women's Lacrosse Team enjoyed a stirring 12-10 victory over Hudson Valley in the finals of the Empire State Games held at Cortland SUNY on Saturday, July 28. The 2001 Empire State Games marked the first time that Women's Lacrosse was officially entered in the games. This accomplishment was due in great part to the efforts of Manhasset resident Bob Costello to whom the players and their families are extremely grateful. FULL STORY
