Manhasset's eleventh annual senior flu immunization program will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Manhasset High School gym. Pneumonia shots will also be offered.

As in past years, Manhasset residents, 60 and over, and their spouses of any age, are encouraged to take advantage of this community health opportunity. More than a dozen volunteer doctors and nurses from Manhasset preside over this professional and efficient procedure each year.

Last year, 622 seniors were inoculated. This very successful community event is the result of close cooperation among a coalition of Manhasset organizations and Nassau County agencies.

The Manhasset Public Schools, Manhasset Public Library, Community Care of Manhasset, Manhasset Chamber of Commerce and the Manhasset Senior Citizen Advisory Board contribute time, space and manpower. The program is co-sponsored by the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs, the Nassau University Medical Center and the Nassau County Department of Health. These agencies provide the vaccine and medical supplies as well as technical assistance and insurance.

Pre-registration is required and will begin on Oct. 15 in person at the Manhasset Library or by telephone at a special number that will be provided through the courtesy of the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce. There is no out-of-pocket expense involved for our residents. Medicare or private health insurance information will be requested, so that Nassau County may apply for partial recovery of the expense of this program.
