Manhasset High School Class of 2001
|
By Eileen Brennan
Friday, June 21, dawned gray and cloudy and graduates, their parents and the administration of Manhasset High School held their collective breath all day. As it turned out, the rain held off and the exercises were held outdoors in front of the high school. Class President Lia Harris greeted those in attendance and Student Union President Denis Cole led the Salute to the Flag. Class Vice President Kim Henderson welcomed everyone and Cara Cronin read a poem she had composed for the occasion. Class Treasurer Rajeev Mehta presented the class gift, a scholarship set up in honor of departing Assistant Principal Dr. Peter Pantina. Jessica Lowery gave the commencement address. After congratulatory remarks by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lawrence E. Bozzomo, Principal William J. Stark gave the keynote address.
Diplomas were presented by Dr. Peter A. Pantina, Mr. William J. Stark, Dr. Lawrence E. Bozzomo, Mr. Gustave Hueber, Mr. Thomas Gilroy, School Board members Barbara Donno, Thomas Killeen, Vincent Calluzzo, Deborah Klein, Thomas Maimone and Mr. Steve Sproul.
The farewell remarks were made by Lia Harris, after which the class left the stands to the strains of Camelot, played by the Manhasset High school Wind Ensemble.
Families and friends then visited the gym, which they saw transformed into a Medieval Banquet Hall. (Pictures of the Frolic in next week's Press.)
