St. Mary's High School in Manhasset held its commencement on June 2 at Tilles Center, C. W. Post Campus of Long Island University.
The master of ceremonies of the occasion was Sr. Mariette Quinn, I.H.M., assistant principal for academics of the high school. Rev. Peter Dugandzic gave the invocation. Following the singing of The Star Spangled Banner, Briane Danielle Sorice gave the salutatory address. Ms. Sorice received the Salutatory Award for Excellence in scholastic work over a four-year period. Mr. Kevin McBride, principal of the high school, and Mr. Richard Krams, assistant principal for students, presented the diplomas to 184 graduates.
The valedictory address was given by Mary Evanov of Manhasset, who received the Valedictory Award for General Excellence, given to a member of the graduating class who has been outstanding in achievement over a four-year period.
The Sister Jeanne Drummond Award, given to the senior girl who "demonstrates the qualities of selfless service and dedication to academic success and loyalty to St. Mary's" was given to Annie Meyer of Plandome.
Mr. McBride and Brother Jeffrey Pedersen, O.S.F. assistant principal for academics, presented the academic awards. Mr. McBride and Mr. Timothy Midwinter, assistant principal for activities, gave the special awards. After concluding remarks by Mr. McBride, Rev. Kevin Smith, the school chaplain, blessed the graduates. They filed out to the recessional, Pomp and Circumstance.
