Florence W. Sharkey passed away quietly among family and friends at Quality Health in Fernandina Beach, FL, on Mother's Day, May 13, 2001. She was 106 1/2 years old. She had lived independently until she was 101. Her husband, Henry W. Sharkey, predeceased Florence. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Bohannon, granddaughter, Trish Bohannon, grandsons, Billy, Mark and Dallas Tomes, and five great-grandchildren, all of Fernandina Beach.
Florence was born and raised in New York City and, prior to her marriage, worked on Wall Street. An accomplished pianist, she gave a number of recitals at Carnegie Hall. Upon marrying, she moved to Manhasset and became active in social and philanthropic clubs, as well as becoming an expert bridge player. Florence enjoyed traveling to Europe, Bermuda, the Caribbean and across the United States. A memorial celebration will held on Thursday, May 17, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, with Father George Young officiating.
