Surrounded by members of her administration and her political supporters, North Hempstead Supervisor May Newburger announced on May 23 that she will be a candidate for a fifth term as supervisor. As she often does, Mrs. Newburger praised members of her administration and her own ability to attract talented people to work for her.

Republicans Bent on Winning
The question of whom the Republican Party would run as its candidate for the position of Nassau County Executive has been one where the answer changed several times in the last few months, with the party leaders never officially announcing who the candidate would be until last Thursday night. The questions remained until the last minute, with one Republican announcing his candidacy, with apparent party backing, on Tuesday and it becoming clear by Thursday that it would be another, a businessman, not a politician, that the party would nominate at the annual convention.

Arsenal Gears Up for Tournament Play After Successful Spring Campaign
With the advent of warmer weather, excitement continues as the Manhasset Arsenal second grade soccer team has extended its unbeaten streak playing against older and more experienced third grade teams. With three tournaments scheduled in June, "the buzz has already surpassed last year," said Coach Joe Gavin. Fueled with determination following their gold medal winning performance in last October's North Hempstead Cup competition, the second grade boys are pumped up and anxious to begin tournament play.

One year ago, a young, undefeated MHS golf team entered the Nassau County Golf Championships with high hopes and expectations. The team, however, struggled and missed the cut, going home after only one day.
