After a brief illness, Dorothy (Dottie) Dietz Smith of Roslyn, formerly of Munsey Park, died on April 29, 2001, surrounded by her children. She was an active member of St. Mary's R. C. Church in Manhasset and a member of Port Washington Yacht Club. Dorothy was an avid yachtswoman who enjoyed fishing and cruising. Her retired years were spent enjoying her family, gardening, bowling and playing bridge with her friends.

She is survived by her children: Mark Smith of Setauket and his wife, Pam; Robert Dietz Smith of Fort Salonga; Jamie Anne Smith of Roslyn; James Russell Smith of Hempstead and his fiancée, Chantale Lash; and Kevin Smith of Branford, CT, and his fiancée, Elena Brooks. Dorothy is also survived by her grandchildren: Christine, Benjamin, Bobby, Tyler, Austin, Ryan and Maggie. Friends can make donations to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Fairchild Funeral Chapel, Manhasset. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's R. C. Church in Manhasset on Wednesday, May 2.

Dorothy Rafferty, widow of William P. Rafferty, died peacefully at her home in Manhasset on Good Friday, April 13, 2001.

Mrs. Rafferty was a resident of Manhasset for 46 years. She was an active member of the Manhasset Community Club where she served for many years as treasurer. She was also a devoted parishioner of St. Mary's Church, where she attended 9 a.m. Mass every day.

She is survived by her two daughters, Rosemary Pendelton and her husband Edward of Anancock, Virginia and Noel O'Brien of Manhasset. There are four grandchildren: William Rafferty Breen and his wife Michelle, of Manhattan; Erin O'Brien Morley and her husband Timothy of Glen Head; James C. O'Brien Jr. of Manhasset and Kerry E. O'Brien of Fresh Meadows. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Timothy and Patrick Morley.

A funeral Mass was held at St. Mary's Church on Tuesday, April 17. It was presided by the Reverend Raymond Stadmeyer, nephew and godson of Mrs. Rafferty.

Interment was in the family plot in Mount Olive Cemetery in Red Bank, NJ.

The family has requested that any memorials be made in Mrs. Rafferty's honor to her godson's soup kitchen: Capuchin Soup Kitchen, C/O Father Raymond Stadmeyer, 1820 Mt. Elliott Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, 48207-3496.
