Edward Winrow, the Manhasset Park district commissioner with the most seniority, won the support recently of his two fellow commissioners and has been elected chairman of the board. The chairman presides at the district's public meetings, which are conducted twice a month, and has significant input on the agenda items that come before the board of commissioners.
"I appreciate this vote of confidence from Commissioner Patricia Roberts and Commissioner Bernie Rolston and look forward to working with them," Commissioner Winrow stated. Mrs. Roberts, who was elected in 1999, will continue in her role as the district's treasurer and Mr. Rolston will serve as the board's secretary. He was elected in December 2000.
Commissioner Winrow has been a member of the Park District's board since 1984 and has said he intends to seek re-election in December 2001. Commissioners serve three-year terms. Winrow was appointed in 1984 to fill a vacancy and subsequently won election and re-election on five occasions.
The Park District oversees all of the commuter parking lots nearest the railroad station; provides shopper and merchant parking along the Plandome Road business district; and owns and maintains three passive parks.
Winrow said he looks forward to working with the community and its local and civic leaders to maintain the standards we all want and expect for Manhasset.
