Governor George Pataki Greets Candidate Bruce Bent
Bruce Bent, candidate for Nassau County Executive, joined Governor George Pataki at the ground breaking ceremony of the Irish Hunger Memorial at Battery Park City last week. Mr. Bent commented that, while the memorial is a painful reminder to the sons and daughters of Ireland of the suffering our ancestors endured because of their religious beliefs, the more important message is that 150 years after the famine and untold technical miracles, the miracle of daily bread still eludes hundreds of millions worldwide. "Let this memorial be not a statement of how far we have come, but rather a reminder of how far we have yet to go," Mr. Bent said.

Angelo Ferrara to Run for Supervisor of North Hempstead
Republican North Hempstead Town Councilman Angelo Ferrara announced last Saturday that he will be a candidate for the office of supervisor of North Hempstead in November. Mr. Ferrara made his announcement on the steps of Town Hall, flanked by family members and fellow Republicans, including State Senator Michael Balboni, Assemblywomen Maureen O'Connell and Donna Ferrara (no relation) and Councilman James O'Connor.
