Bruce Bent, candidate for Nassau County Executive, joined Governor George Pataki at the ground breaking ceremony of the Irish Hunger Memorial at Battery Park City last week. Mr. Bent commented that, while the memorial is a painful reminder to the sons and daughters of Ireland of the suffering our ancestors endured because of their religious beliefs, the more important message is that 150 years after the famine and untold technical miracles, the miracle of daily bread still eludes hundreds of millions worldwide. Republican North Hempstead Town Councilman Angelo Ferrara announced last Saturday that he will be a candidate for the office of supervisor of North Hempstead in November.
