North Hempstead Delegation Lobbies Washington
The key word of the day was "bipartisanship" as representatives of the Town of North Hempstead traveled to Washington D. C. last week seeking help for two local initiatives. Supervisor May Newburger and Councilman James O'Connor were joined by North Hempstead's Director of Operations Arthur Gianelli and Planning Commissioner Michael Levine. The group met with Senators Charles Schumer and Hillary Clinton, with Congress members Gary Ackerman, Peter King and Carolyn McCarthy, and with Major General Hans A. Van Winkle, director of Civil Works Programs for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. They brought with them a packet of information prepared by the Planning Department, giving details of the two initiatives.
Assessment Image Gathering to Begin in Manhasset in April
If you see someone with a camera photographing your house sometime in April, it will probably be someone hired to help Nassau County in its reassessment project. Continuing its efforts to educate Manhasset's residents, the Community Liaison Committee (CLC) last week played host to Ben L. Nadola, public information for Cole, Layer, Trumble, the company that is charged with the reassessment of Nassau County. Mr. Nadola began his presentation by reassuring those present that the many exemptions that are in place, such as the STAR program, veterans' benefits and home improvement phase-ins, will remain in place. Residents will not have to reapply for them after reassessment.
