Village elections will be held on Tuesday, March 20 and this year there are no contests in Manhasset. As a result, there will be few voters who go to the polls but if you have the time, it would be a good idea to stop in at the village hall and vote. As we have remarked in this space before, our local officials devote considerable time and effort on our behalf and without remuneration. Casting a vote for them lets them know that we are aware of their generosity and appreciate it. Usually they only hear from their constituents with complaints. A vote for an unopposed candidate is a vote of confidence and a gesture of gratitude.
We would also like to call our readers' attention to two new features in the Manhasset Press. Last week we ran the first of what will be a series of columns by Supreme Court Justice John P. Dunne. Jack, a lifelong resident of Manhasset, has an interest in his profession that goes beyond his courtroom. He takes an informed interest in all aspects of the law and in these columns he is generous enough to share that interest with us. We are most grateful and believe our readers will share that sentiment.
The other new feature, which appears on today's editorial page, comes from student writers at the high school. These columns will serve as a showcase for their original work. Today's effort is a sparkling beginning.
