After sweeping all six hockey games to win the Philadelphia Invitational Tournament during the Christmas vacation, the team headed up to Toronto, Canada during the winter vacation for the York High School Hockey Classic. Once again, St. Mary's proved to be a very powerful force.

In the preliminaries, St. Mary's defeated St. Augustine HS 6-0, Neil McNeil HS 4-2, Oakville HS 3-0, and tied Mentor HS 3-3. After a less than inspiring performance in the tie game, the Gaels came back better prepared for the finals.

In the first minute of the finals, where they faced McNeil a second time, Billy Murray scored the first goal on an assist from Mike Collette. Just 18 seconds later, Brian Mitchell scored the second goal on assists from Billy Murray and Mike Collette. At the nine minute mark, Brian Mitchell connected again on assists from Mike Collette and Brian Dobler. Sean Dvoran completed a great first half with a goal on assists from Ruslin Khasanchin and Joe Leone. With the score 4-1, Evan Smith added the fifth goal on assists from Brendan Rizzo and Steve Rios. Billy Murray completed the dominating victory with his second goal of the game with assists from Collette, and MJ Errante. Mike Midea was very sharp in the goal.

On returning from Canada, the Gaels completed a series sweep against arch-rival Portledge Prep with a 4-3 victory. Khasanchin scored the game winner with 4:45 left in the game. Dimitri Soukhanov and Ruslan Khasanchin each scored two goals. Mike Midea again did an outstanding job in the net, stopping several point blank shots toward the end of the game.

St. Mary's will be heading upstate at the end of March hoping to win their sixth New York State Championship.
